Yggdrasil Gaming

Yggdrasil – the mythological tree that has firmly taken root in the online gaming world.

According to Norse Mythology, the Yggdrasil (pronounced ‘IG-druh-sill’) was the tree at the centre of the cosmos. Usually an Ash tree, it links together the nine worlds, is home to various weird and wonderful dragons, eagles and similar creatures, as well as being the meeting place of the gods.

We’re not sure exactly what aspect of the myth the software developer of the same name, one of the newest on the market, is trying to emulate, but they seem sure to feature strongly in the ongoing saga of the online gaming world, and already have their branches in quite a few different areas.

Ground-Breaking Video Slot

Yggdrasil were the force behind the recent Jokerizer, which, whilst it remains their only video slot to date, is expected to be followed by more forays into the online slots world, perhaps forming raiding parties against established developers like NetEnt and Microgaming.

Jokerizer has proven to be pretty unique, with 3D graphics and a series of bonus rounds to make any developer green at the gills, and payouts to match (6,000 coins in a single spin is possible!). But does it stop there for Yggdrasil?

Nope! Yggdrasil have already carved something of a niche for themselves in other areas too...

Scratchcards, Keno and Lotto too!

Like many developers with strong links to online casinos (they are partners with Euroslots) Yggdrasil have registered offices in both Malta and Gibraltar, but they’re unmistakeably Scandinavian in their orientation (the Vikings made it to the Mediterranean too, remember!).

We say this above all else because Yggdrasil has a wide portfolio of games which are popular in the Scandinavian region and in the gaming world in general, notably Keno, Scratch cards (both of which are available in traditional formats as well as video versions) and traditional lotteries as well.

The Lotto 7 live draw, a weekly lottery with a possible top prize of €2.5m, is a real highlight.

Making the Traditional, Cutting Edge

But what really sets Yggdrasil apart here is the integration of traditional scratch card and similar concepts, with the best of cutting edge graphics and effects. Just to pluck a couple of, not-quite-random examples, the Scary Money video scratchcard sees each selected number being revealed from behind creaking wooden doors and heralded by suitably scary sound effects and a whole load of bats flying out.

Not something you see when buying the old scratchcards from the kiosk on a Saturday morning! Yggdrasil’s Video Keno games feature animated themes including Ancient Egypt and some kind of Lovecraft-esque underwater sea monster helping you choose the numbers.
